Wisterias and Illumination in Ashikaga Flower Park!

Jun. 29 Wed by histeam Things to See

Today we’ll be taking you through the Ashikaga Flower Park! To get there, you can either take a 2 hour bus ride or take the JR Ryomou Line to Fukuda station and walk another 13 minutes from there. The Ashikaga Flower Park is the only location in Japan that has been listed as one of the top 10 places to visit in the world since 2014 and is renowned for its 130 year old wisteria tree! The branches from this remarkable plant creates a beautiful ceiling of purple blossoms that sway softly as wind breezes by.

There are also some white and very rare yellow wisteria planted here as well. The blooming season is between mid April to early-to-mid May depending on the weather. Wisterias go into bloom almost as soon as the cherry blossom season ends, (in Kanto at least) so for anyone who’s planning to come to Japan to see the cherry blossoms it might be a good idea to stretch out your trip a little bit~!

The Ashikaga Flower Park is also the proud host of one of the three largest illuminations in the whole Kanto region. The illumination is held in late October and is the world’s first light show to incorporate organic light-emitting diodes (OLED), revolutionizing the illumination industry. The bright blue lights hanging from the frames are almost like glowing blue wisteria shining in the night and are a beautiful sight to behold.

The Ashikaga Flower Park has all sorts and species of flowers blooming throughout the year. If you are departing from the Tokyo Metropolitan, there are many day tours that you can sign up for to visit this little piece of heaven on earth!
