Amazing Skiing in Tohoku
The Appi Kogen Ski Resort is located about an hour north of Morioka City, Iwate's capital. It is definitely one of Tohoku's best ski resorts- the season is long and the variety is huge. Skiing lasts at Appi Kogen from around December to the first week in May, and courses range in everything from beginner to off-piste, ungroomed runs down the mountainside of Mount Maemori and Mount Nishimori. The peaks of both mountains also provide amazing views of the surrounding mountains.
There is also a great snow park for snowboarders, as well as sledding, snow tubing, and children's snow activities. There is rental equipment and rest facilities, as well as restaurants and shops, and also a ski school.
The resort offers its own hotel. Hotel Appi Grand, but there are also smaller options in the town below the resort.
