Marine Life Among Urban Sprawl
Osaka Aquarium, also known as Kaiyukan (海遊館) is one of the world's largest public aquariums, and definitely one of Japan's most magnificent.
The aquairum focuses on marine life of the Pacfic Rim with 27 different display tanks with 19 permanent exhibits. Visitors to the aquarium begin on the 8th floor and work their way down floor by floor around the central tank, which is nine meters deep. The main tank is home to the aquarium's main attraction, a whale shark. Many of the tanks are more than one floor, and for visitors, this means that it's possible to see the animals from many different perspectives!
The exhbitions are divided into what part of the Pacific Rim they are from, like the Great Barrier Reef, the Ecuador Rainforest, and the Maldives.
In addition to the aquarium itself, there is a ferris wheel, shops, restaurants, and even a hotel on the complex.
