Kyoto, Japan Dec. 19 Thurs 6:11AM
An Iconic Landmark
Kyoto Tower is just across the street from Kyoto Station. It is 131 meters tall, and is the tallest building in Kyoto, where most of the city has zoning laws about the heights of buildings in order to keep the traditional views and atmosphere in tact. It opened in 1964 in tangent with the shinkansen and the Tokyo Olympics.
The viewing platform is 100 meters tall and offers panoramic views of the city, with landmarks pointed out. Visitors can make their way around the platform in a circle, and famous sites around Kyoto are also marked with their distance from the viewing platform. The tower itself is on top of a building with a hotel, shops, restaurants, and a public bath.
