Unparalleled Beauty
The Geibikei, or Geibi Gorge, is a gorge outside of Hiraizumi. There are tall cliffs and rocks around the gorge, which can be soon on boat rides around. The boat rides are about an hour and a half long, and the boats are flat-bottomed and steered with a bamboo pole by a boat gide. Passengers sit barefoot in the boat, and the guide sings Japanese folk songs during the tour. Passengers can get off the boat and walk into the gorge and buy lucky stones to throw into the gorge as well as food to feed koi fish and ducks. It is especially popular during the fall foliage season.
