10,000 Cherry Trees
Kitakami may have the world's most beautiful cherry blossoms- 10,000 trees are planted along the Kitakami River at Tenshouchi Park. They usually are in bloom for about ten days in late April. There is a cherry blossom festival every year with food stalls and picnics, as well as a cherry blossom river cruise boat.
The Michinoku Folklore Village is right next to the park, which is an open air museum which houses preserved buildings from Tohoku's history. Most of them can be entered and have household items and other artifacts on display, which gives visitors to the village a glimpse of Tohoku's past.
