A Neighborhood Revitalized

Located in Shibuya, the area around the east side Ebisu Station has rapidly developed and expanded since the construction of the Ebisu Garden Place in 1994. Ebisu Garden Place was built on the site of the old Yebisu Beer Brewery, whih had been brewed there since 1890. It is known as a "city within a city," with more than a dozen buildings and skyscrapers, and has a large selection of restaurants, including the the Michelin 3-star Chateau Restaurant Taillvent-Robuchon, a department store, the Westin Tokyo Hotel, offices, and even residential apartments.

On the west side of the station is a smaller shopping district with more traditional shops. This creates an interesting juxtaposition with the Ebisu Garden Place. The west side of Ebisu Station is well known for mom-and-pop restuarants and bars that have been around for decades, especially ramen- Ebisu is one of the best places in Tokyo to try different kinds of ramen.

Adjacent to Ebisu is the Daikanyama district, home to many foreign embassies, sophisticated shopping, and European cuisine. It's especially popular among young women.
