Iwate's Capital City
Morioka City is the capital city of Iwate. The city is surrounded on mountains by three sides and is a good hub for exploring other areas of Iwate.
In the city itself, the Morioke Castle Ruins Park is one of the most major attractions. The castle no longer exists, but the stone walls of the castle still remain, and it is a popular spot for seeing cherry blossom and the colors of fall foliage. There are two hundred cherry trees and about one hundred plum trees in the park, and there is also the Morioka History and Culture Museum.
