A City of Tradition
Akita City is located in the middle of Akita Prefecture, with the Japan Sea to the west and the Dewa Mountains to the east. The city is famous for its beautiful Japan Sea views, its traditional temples and shrines, and well-preserved old farming residences. The city is known best fore its Kanto Festival, held every summer where performers hold lanters on bamboo poles.
