Incredible Hiking in Akita
Moint Akita-Komagatake is located in the Towada-Hachimantai National Park. It is an active volcano, but has not erupted since 1971. It is well known for trails that are accessable for even beginners, and for the amazing views of the mountains surrounding. The mountain is also famous for its alpine flowers in bloom from June to August, as well as its colorful fall foliage.
The main trail on the mountain starts at the 8th Station, and there is a shuttle bus available up to this point. The mountain's trails are located around Amida Pond, or Amida-ike, and end with views into the main crater of Akita-Komagatake.
