World-Class Art, Shopping, and Dining
Roppongi Hills is commonly known as a city for the its excellent, if upscale, shopping. It’s located in Minato, Tokyo. It is still really interesting for me to visit this area to see the sophisticated architecture and the beautiful landscapes. There are various shops, restaurants, hotels, art museums, observation decks, and gardens that visitors can enjoy.
Various luxury brand stores and cafes stand on the road of Keyakizaka. If you go during the wintertime, beautiful illuminations surround the road. There are also four Roppongi Hills residential apartments known to be owned by famous celebrities and affluent businessman.
I am always intrigued by the big Spider in the 66 Plaza. I always wonder the symbolism behind this spider. It might seem off-putting at first, but the design is incredibly intricate.
I always like to visit the TV Asahi building that is in Roppongi Hills. TV Asahi is the channel for many famous Japanese cartoons and variety shows, such as Doraemon. I see children visiting TV Asahi to visit the life-sized Doraemon statue and buying tors from the TV Asahi store.
Every summer, there is an event called Summer Station hosted by TV Asahi and 66 Doraemon statues stand in different poses throughout the 66 Plaza. The plaza was full of people taking photos with the Doraemon statue, including me.
The Mori garden is also one of my favorite places to go. The natural garden located in the middle of Tokyo has a really romantic feel. The garden is famous for its Christmas illumination that attracts many groups of family and couples each year. If you come to Japan in the wintertime, this place is a must go!
Other than that, there are much more to do at Roppongi Hills. You can see a bird’s-eye view of the Tokyo city from the Mori tower observation deck, examine sophisticated art at the Mori Art Museum, and enjoy shopping at Hillside or Tokyo Midtown.
Roppongi Hills is also known for its array of nightclubs and bars, which are especially popular among foreigners and is a must visit for anyone interested in Tokyo nightlife.
