Mochi Like Traditional Sweets
Warabimochi is a jelly-like confection made from bracken starch.
It is usually covered with kinako (sweet toasted soybean flour). The texture is more like a jelly. It is delicate and especially popular during the summer. In Kyoto, you will be able to find matcha warabimochi along with the regualr type.
These sweets are hard to preserve, and usually do not last long. It is recommended to try them while you are in Kyoto! You can eat them in a cafe with matcha, or you will probably be able to find one at convinience stores and supermarkets as well.
