Fly over the sand!

Aug. 30 Tues by Amy Things to Do

Sand, Ocean, Sand, Seafood, SAND!

Have you ever been to Tottori?

It's a small small prefecture located on the Southern part of the main island of Japan. It's a small prefecuture, but the potential is HUGE. First of all, it is famous for its Sand Dune. Since I have never visit Tottori, my friend and I decided to go explore. Good thing about small prefectures is that it can be a short trip, and you will still be able to enjoy the main features of that prefecture. On this trip, we went to both Tottori and Shimane (prefecture right next to Tottori) in just 2nights 3days!

Which looks likes this.

And this... This is the largest accessible Sand Dune in Japan! It'l located right next to the ocean and has a nice breeze.

The Sand Dune is so big, my friend looks so small...and then, an activity you can enjoy at this Sand Dune is paragliding.

Yes, paragliding! We tried it for the first time in our lives, and it was amazing. What made us comfortable about trying paragliding here was that there are not large objects or sharp trees, dangerous zones around, so we can try to fly all we want. riding the wind was so much fun!

The instructor will tell you how to control the kyte, and after that, you will be allowed to try to fly on your own. (Don't worry! you won't get too far, and the instructor will shout out instructions!) I never thought first timers would be allowed to fly alone! Definitely worth the challenge.

After flying, we had some time before dinner, so we stopped by the souvenior station next to the Sand Dune. Since Tottori has a beautiful ocean, I enjoyed their seafood more than their meat dishes. It's always fun to munch on food outside...

It's a fried fish cake! Freshly made at the store, it's warm and chewy. This one is made from red snapper. The flavor is simple, but you can taste the fish, without the fishy-ness. A great snack to munch on while exploring the fun souveniors.

For dinner, we went to a fresh seafood "Izakaya" (A Japanese style bar) What was so cool about this place is that they let you pick out the fish you want out of the water tank they have in the middle of the restaurant!

After ordering, thry will come around onto the water tank, grab a fish and ask if that one is fir to our likings. They all look so good that we couldn't choose...!! So even though there were only two of us, we order A LOT of food.

Crabs

Fresh raw squid! This was amazing.

Lastly, filefish. the fish is so fresh that we can also eat the "gut" part (Not many fish have edible guts, but filefish does, and it's so delicious!) You can just eat it with soysauce, but I recommend mixing the gut with the soy sauce, then dipping the sashimi (fish meat) into that soy sauce. This with rice and miso soup was a lot of food, but yes, we finished them, ALL.

It was my first time in Tottori, but it exceeded by expectations with entertainment, nature, and food.

If you rent a car, you can also visit Shimane prefecture (which also has amazing things), which I will talk about in the next blog!
