Fried Fish Cake
Sastumaage(fried fish cake) is another one I have to mention here.
Sastumaage is made by local sea fish, served with wasabi soy sauce. Kagoshima is the only place you can actually eat them fresh. It might sound a bit strange that fried fish cake will be fresh, but it makes a great difference. Think about it, hot and deep fried fresh fish cake with light salty and sweet from the natural flavors of fish.
There are multiple types of Satsumaage. Classic types are golden brown on the outside and white on the inside. By frying, it does not make the satsumaage crispy, but it makes it hold together, and adds more flavor and smell.
Other typs might have vegetables on the outside, or even have other vegetables inside. It is one of the cuisine you can eat at resutaurants, super markets, or even at food stands. Sizes also differ, so try different types at different places and find your favorite of all!
