Fishing Town

Katsuura is on the Kii Peninsula, and is widely known for its onsen and fishing port.

There are two notable onsen hotels here: Urashima Hotel and Nakanoshima Hotel. The former is the home of the Bokido Coastal Cave Bath while the latter is located on its own private island and has outdoor baths with incredibly scenic views. Both are accessible only via boat. You don’t have to be a guest of the hotel to use the baths!

Katsuura market is known for catching a large proportion of the world’s tuna. The largest tuna are auctioned off similarly to the famous Tsukiji market in Tokyo. Katsuura also holds tuna-cutting performances a few times daily.

There are also multiple cruiselines offering whale and dolphin watching tours! They usually operate from late April to late September.

Kastuura is a great place for water-lovers. Visitors can browse the fish market, take a boat cruise, walk along the pier, or relax in a unique ocean-side onsen!
