Point of interest in Nagasaki Area

Henn na Hotel Huis Ten Bosch

Nagasaki was the only major entrance port for foreign countries for hundreds of years in Japan's period of national isolation. For that reason, countries such as Netherlands, Portugal, Scotland, and Unites States have influenced much of Nagasaki’s history, products and famous spots. Many Nagasaki's popular foods especially originate from foreign countries.

Sasebo Burger

Henn na Hotel Huis Ten Bosch

Sasebo burgers originated from the city of Sasebo in Nagasaki. Having a strong American influence due to the American navy base in the area, these burgers are large, greasy, and filling like a true American style burger. However, the Sasebo burger has been reworked and modified by generations of Japanese cooks and the flavors reflect such.

Nagasaki Peace Park

Henn na Hotel Huis Ten Bosch

The Nagasaki Peace Park is a park that stands as a symbol of peace and commemorates the atomic bombing of the city that happened August 8, 1945. At the park’s north end is the 10 meter tall Peace statue created by sculptor Seibo Kitamura of Nagasaki Prefecture. The statue is symbolic and also represents a mixture of western and eastern art, religion, and ideology. The statue’s right hand points to the threat of nuclear weapons while the extended left hand symbolizes eternal peace. The gently closed eyes offer a prayer for the victims.
