Asakusabashi is a district that combines traditions and modern culture. Although it is considered a business district, Asakusabashi also holds many shops and stores selling souvenirs and trinkets that are fun to look at, as well as hinaningyou, traditional Japanese dolls. Asakusabashi also happens to be between popular tourist attractions Akihabara and Ryogoku aka Sumo Town, also making it a convenient place for those wanting to get to both places!
Akihabara is a popular tourist destination as well as a popular hangout location for locals as there are many things to do. Akihabara is famous for the many anime, manga, and electronic stores it has, as well as popular attractions like the maid cafe. It is affectionately referred to as an "otaku" spot and is great for anyone with an interest in Japanese entertainment and popular culture..
A few minutes southwest of the hotel is a landmark of Tokyo and of Japan, the Imperial Palace where the emperor and empress of Japan reside. The buildings tend to be closed to the public, but the East Gardens can be explored. Official guided tours can also be arranged to be taken further into the grounds as well, but these are public and subject to the palace schedule and availability.
North of the hotel is Ueno Onshi Park, a well-known park in Tokyo. Within the park, there are also museums, a zoo, and walkways alongside a lake. The park is a nice rest from the concrete structures and the buzz of the city. During the spring, beautiful cherry blossom trees can be observed as well, and one of the most popular places to observe the pink blooms.
The famous modern landmark, the Tokyo Dome, is a well known Tokyo location. The Tokyo Dome is a famous stadium that holds various events like concerts and baseball games. Sports lovers in particular may appreciate making a stop at the Tokyo Dome conveniently located just west of the Henn na Hotel Asakusabashi location.
Tokyo Skytree is the tallest structure in Japan and the tallest tower in the world! Visitors can see a view of Tokyo from great heights, and enjoy the various shops and cafes within the tower. Tokyo Skytree is located Northeast of the hotel and continues to be one of the most popular tourist locations in Tokyo!
About a six minute train ride directly east, Ryogoku Kokugikan is where they hold the Grand Sumo Tournament in Tokyo. Since matches are few throughout the year and sumo is such a big part of the culture, the actual event tends to be very popular. For this location, the tournament will take place in September. If you have the opportunity, we recommend checking it out! For the off season, there is also a sumo museum that will give you a glimpse into the world of sumo and Japanese culture.
The Edo-Tokyo Museum is found to the east of the hotel and has exhibitions that show the history of Edo-Tokyo and the historic culture of Japan. Both original and replicas of artifacts can be observed here, and is a great stop for anyone interested in Japanese culture and history.
