How to enjoy Yokohama in summer
In Yokohama, the city's symbolic flower, the rose, is about to reach its best season. In fact, roses have been popular in Yokohama as a "token of Japan-U.S. friendship", ever since the U.S. sent rose saplings to the city after the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. You will be able to enjoy those roses at various locations throughout Yokohama during the “Yokohama Rose Week" which will be held from May 3 to June 11, 2023.

Kiyoken Shiumai Bento
What to Eat
Yokohama's symbolic flower is the rose, then Yokohama's symbolic food is... yes, shiumai. The most famous shiumai, made by Kiyoken, is a Yokohama specialty that was born in Yokohama, inspired by the Chinese culture of shaomai (steamed dumplings). The recommended way to enjoy shiumai is with a "Shiumai Ekiben". Ekiben is an abbreviation for "Eki-uri Bento (bento boxed meal sold at train stations)," and in Japan, there is a custom of eating bento purchased at stations on trains when traveling. Why don't you experience a wonderful train trip with a taste of Japanese culture? In addition, visitors to Kiyoken's Yokohama factory can tour the shiumai and bento production lines. If you are interested in the history and secrets of shiumai and ekiben, this is a must-see.
