Ishigaki Island, or Ishigaki-jima, is a paradise of crystal waters, colorful corals and fishes just beneath the surface. About 200 miles off of the Okinawa Main Island, Ishigaki-jima is covered in lush green mountains, including Mt. Omoto-dake, the highest mountain in Okinawa. This is what makes the views of the island, its coastline, and the surrounding ocean so incredible. Also, the coral reefs in Ishigaki-jima are some of the most scenic in the world, noted especially for the variety of corals beneath the crystal-clear water. On the other hand, the inland area away from the beaches is a jungle of tropical mangroves and Yae-yama palm trees which are unique to the Yae-yama islands, including Ishigaki-jima. Guided riverboats for hire take visitors through the adventurous jungles.
